There’s no shame in admitting that you’re scared to take the top off your diaper pail for fear of fainting. But really there are some easy fixes, so why not deal with those fears and any smells that might be lurking beneath the lid? In just a few easy steps you can return your pail to its pristine original state and get rid of those smelly gremlins for good:

1. This step will require rubber gloves and some elbow grease, but a little time put in now will bring immense pleasure down the road! To fight odours and give your diaper pail a good scouring there’s nothing better than Baking Soda – if it’s not amongst your baking supplies there’s sure to be an open box hiding in the back of the fridge. Grab it, sprinkle generously, add a splash of water and then scrub it into a paste. Once you have your paste spread throughout the pail it’s just a case of giving it a really good rinse, emptying the water into the toilet, and voila your pail is as good as new.

2. Now you can add in some accessories. These will make your life easier and, as it’s their job to control odour, moisture, etc., you’ll be doing yourself a favour by investing in at least some of them. To begin with, you can choose to use a pail specifically designed for cloth diapers – it comes with a space for a charcoal filter that will absorb moisture and odour and another space for a deodorizing disc to make your pail smell fantastic. Another nicety is a diaper pail liner; these wet bags, made specifically to fit into the diaper pail, can make for easy work – when it comes time to wash the diapers you just shake the bag over the washing machine to get the diapers in the washer and then throw the pail liner in too. If you don’t want all the bells and whistles you can just go for a large wet bag with a zip closure and it too can be washed with your diapers. Also, if you use a pail that doesn’t have space for a deodorizing disc you can still use one, just tape it inside the pail to the lid, for example.

3. If you’re properly dealing with your used diapers and washing them regularly (waiting no longer than three days between washes) there shouldn’t be much odour to worry about anyway, apart from a slight whiff of ammonia perhaps. So make sure that when dealing with soiled diapers you give them a good shake, shake, shake into the toilet and then rinse any residue off your diapers (e.g. by using a diaper sprayer that attaches to your toilet or rinsing them under the bath tap, with the water running into a bucket that can then be flushed). To make clean-up even easier lay a BioSoft liner in your diapers.

Hopefully those tips will come in handy, and may allow you to re-love your diaper pail for the fabulous and functional piece of furniture that it is!

We have a serious bias towards wool. It’s just so scrumptious as a diaper cover – soft, breathable, absorbent, antibacterial, natural – the list goes on!! We’re really excited about the latest wool cover to appear in our lineup – the absolutely gorgeous Loveybums Pull-Up cover. It’s a sized cover that comes in some truly lovely colours (french blue, green tea, mango & orchid). Made of a fantastically soft and beautifully thick wool interlock, this cover is great for day and perfect for night!

The gorgeous itti bitti tutto has finally made it to our shores! A huge hit in its native Australia, and with a big following in the UK, we’re really excited to have it in store and ready to go!

This is a truly unique diaper, with so many very clever features. Here are a few of the ones we love:

* it’s an AI2 (all-in-two) diaper so you can swap out the snap-in soakers for a fresh set and reuse that fantastic cover. Not only will that really cut down on your washing load, it also makes the diaper super economical as you only need a handful of covers + a bunch of very reasonably priced inserts

* that incredible minkee cover is a sight for sore eyes!! It’s luxuriously soft, comes in a rainbow of fantastic colours, and has the look of a very plush fitted diaper with the bonus that you don’t have to cover it up because it’s waterproof. Wow!

* this one-size diaper has a huge weight range (from 3kg/6.5 pounds – 20kg/44 pounds)

* the diaper comes with a patented “poo fence”. Yes that’s what it’s called! It’s an internal gusset system around the legs and back that adds an extra level of protections against explosions.

* the snap-in soakers can be arranged to meet the needs of your baby. If you don’t need loads of absorbency then just use one or two. If you have a boy snap them in at the front. If you have a girl snap them in at the back. So customizable and so clever!

We’re really excited to be one of the few retailers in Canada offering itti bitti products including the bitti tutto, as well as gorgeous itti bitti wet bags and change mats, all in that gorgeous minkee fabric!
